Boulder Colorado Homes, Real Estate and City Information

Boulder, Colorado is located on the 40th parallel of the US, about 25 miles north and west of Denver.  Originally founded by gold-rush miners and pioneers back in 1871, Boulder has a population of roughly 100,000.  It has a national reputation as being a magnet to those who love the outdoors and is home to some of the nation’s leanest and health-conscious people, enjoying around 36,000 acres of surrounding open space.

The average home price in Boulder is traditionally more expensive than those in the surrounding suburbs.  While it is not the only town on Colorado’s front range with perfect access to the natural environment, it does have one of the most active cultures in terms of a green emphasis and eco-friendly living.  It also has multiple trendy shopping areas, a multitude of town events and celebrations, and a bustling commercial center.  Homeowners and tenants of Boulder pay more for this location – not just in terms of rent and house payments, but sales tax also is higher in Boulder than it’s surrounding towns (currently at 8.16%).

The city boasts a younger population than the majority of other Colorado cities.  This is, in part, due to the location of the University of Colorado which has just under 30,000 students enrolled, the vast majority of which are under the age of 27.  Yet the access to both public and private high schools in Boulder has also been attractive to parents – around 20% of the 40,000 households in Boulder have kids under the age of 18.
